TGC Capstone

TGC fellows are required to complete a capstone project.  Its intent is to serve as a tool for fellows to share what they learned and how to globalize classrooms.  There are good items on my capstone website, including:
  • Global Education Unit Plan- Based on the resources we learned about and the skills required of 21st century learners, I created a social studies unit called "Is Peace Possible?"  During this unit, students use varies technology mediums, read articles and scholarly journals on modern issues and peace theories, and ultimately write a reflective essay on whether or not they will see another major war and/or conflict in their lifetimes.
  • Standards-Based Global Education Update- This looks at several USVA History SOLs and globalizes them.  Essentially, I worked within the confines of Virginia's Standards of Learning  (SOL) to globalize the curriculum (connect it to the greater world).  This was actually a really good practice because it is so easy to get stuck in the SOL rut and "teach to the test."  Globalization allows teachers to expand what they teach and how they teach while preparing students for end of year exams.
